Q) Is a Franchise my own business?
A) Yes and No. You are granted contractual rights to operate the Whytes Specialised Equipment Cleaning Business. Be aware that rights can be withdrawn under the terms of the Franchise Agreement. You are responsible for all day to day activities in running your business. However you are also responsible for meeting your obligations to the Franchisor. This is covered in more detail in the Franchise agreement.
Q) What is a Franchise System
A) A Franchise System is the operating of a Franchised Business that is set out in detail in the Whytes Specialised Equipment Business Operations Manual. You will be required to follow the system. If you are not the type of person that likes following a system you should reconsider purchasing a franchise.
Q) What if I have a good idea.
A) Any ideas and initiatives are welcome but must be approved by the Franchisor before use. This is covered in the Franchise agreement.
Q) “Can I do things different to the Operations Manual?”
A) Short answer - No! The secret to the success of franchising is in the application and operation of the systems.
Q) Do I have to supply information about income and customer details?
A) Yes. The Franchisor has the right to request any information that relates to the Franchised Business
Q) Will I have an exclusive territory?
A) Yes. Whytes Specialised Equipment Business operates in exclusive territories.
Q) If I get paid in cash – do I have to declare all of it?
A) You are expected to meet all your obligations as laid out by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and the New Zealand equivalent in your Franchise Agreement.
Q) “How long is the term of the Franchise Agreement and what does it mean?”
A) Each term of a Whytes Specialised Equipment Business is for 5 years (renuable). A term is the number of years for which you have been granted the rights to operate the Franchised Business. The term is a diminishing one that ends at a point in time specified as described in the Franchise Agreement. It could best be compared to a lease on a commercial building. The Franchisor owns the building (the system) you are being granted the right to use (the operating system) to operate the business.
Q) “What happens at the end of the franchise term and at the end of each renewal period?”
A) Contained in the Franchise Agreement are steps for renewal of the Franchise Agreement at the end of each renewal period. Not following these steps could lead to termination of your Franchise Agreement. The onus is on you the Franchise owner to perform the tasks required to operate the Whytes Specialised Equipment Business franchise Business in accordance with the Franchise Agreement and Operations Manual. If there have been periods of continual frustration and non compliance or non performance then your Franchise Agreement may not be renewed.
Q) Is this a lifestyle job
A) It is very important to understand that this is not a “job”, it is a business. Businesses come with advantages and disadvantages that include many different aspects. As the business owner it is your responsibility to operate the business within the system and rules that exist. There are many benefits to owning a Whytes Specialised Equipment Business such as flexible hours, , tax benefits and working with other family members. What remains paramount is that first and foremost this is a business with commercial objectives.

Q) Who will attend training?
A) The person or people who will undertake the majority of the “day to day” business.

A) It is important to have a reliable reasonable late model vehicle (van), Toyota Hiase is the preferable type, however not limited to.
Q) Do I need a mobile phone?
A) Yes you must have one. This way customers will be able to contact you so that you will be able to respond quickly to their enquiries. It also allows us to contact you during working hours.
Q) Is the Franchise Agreement a binding agreement?
A) Yes it is - subject to the conditions contained within the Franchise agreement itself.
Q) “How much working capital do I need?”
A) It is important to have enough money to help you through the start up phase period, Make sure you have enough to meet your financial commitments for several weeks.
Q) What happens if the Franchisor Company is sold?
A) If that happens, any purchaser will be bound by the existing Franchise Agreements and will have to observe the conditions contained in the Franchise contract.
